Dr. Matthew Negaard is a fellowship-trained Primary Care Sports Medicine and Emergency Medicine physician at Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics with specialized expertise in acute musculoskeletal injuries, musculoskeletal ultrasound, orthobiologics and regenerative medicine. He is passionate about helping athletes and active individuals return to the activities they love through evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Dr. Negaard serves as the Medical Director of Forté Fast, Forté’s orthopedic walk-in clinic, a role he has held since 2022. In this position, he oversees the evaluation and treatment of a wide range of acute orthopedic and sports-related injuries, focusing on efficient, high-quality care for patients of all ages and activity levels. His background in Emergency Medicine provides a unique perspective in the diagnosis and management of complex acute musculoskeletal conditions.
Since 2022, Dr. Negaard has also served as a team physician for the Indianapolis Colts, where he assists in the care of professional athletes and sideline medical coverage. His prior team physician experience includes coverage for the Iowa Hawkeyes and local high school athletics.
A recognized leader in musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures, Dr. Negaard has contributed to national education initiatives, research collaborations, and physician training in sports medicine and Emergency Medicine. His clinical interests include non-operative orthopedic care, shockwave therapy, and regenerative medicine treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), alpha-2 macroglobulin (A2M) and other orthobiologic therapies.
Dr. Negaard remains actively involved in research and national collaboration focused on regenerative medicine and orthobiologics. In 2026, he co-authored the publication “A Brief Overview and Update of Regenerative Medicine for the Treatment of Musculoskeletal Conditions,” which highlights the evolving evidence and future direction of orthobiologic therapies in musculoskeletal care.
Originally from Iowa, Dr. Negaard completed medical school, residency training in Emergency Medicine, and fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after attending University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He continues to enjoy teaching, research and collaboration within the sports medicine community.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Negaard enjoys spending time with his wife and young children, staying active and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
