Orthopedic Treatments for Knee Pain

Until you have knee pain, you may not realize everything your knee does. Obviously, the knees allow us to walk comfortably, but as the largest joints in our body, they also help us move in many ways. Without knee pain treatment, this pain may lead to further discomfort in your lower back, hips, ankles and feet. Talk to our team about developing a customized treatment plan to get you moving comfortably again.

Request an Appointment

With years of in-depth training specifically on knee injuries and treatments, your Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics doctor diagnoses the cause of your knee pain and puts you on the road to recovery. Knee pain can come on suddenly as the result of an acute injury, or gradually appear over time. Because knee pain may be caused by a variety of conditions, or even multiple conditions at once, our team of orthopedic knee specialists provide every patient with a unique plan of treatment.

When to See a Doctor for Knee Pain

Our Forté Fast Orthopedic Care locations are open regularly for walk-in appointments in cases of sports or other sudden injuries that don’t show signs of immediate emergency. If you have lingering or chronic pain from an injury or condition, please call our office to speak to a trained triage specialist who can help you make an appointment with the right specialist at a convenient Forté location.

Individualized Treatment Plans

Your Forté doctor will create a plan to address the cause of your knee pain or injury, customized for your age, activity level and goals. In addition to discussing surgical and other treatment options, your doctor will personally select the best physical therapist or other specialists to aid you in recovery.

Can Shin Splints Cause Knee Pain?

While shin splints are typically known for causing pain along the lower leg, they can also set off a chain reaction that affects your knees. When your shins hurt, your body naturally tries to compensate—maybe you adjust your stride, land differently or shift your weight without even realizing it. Over time, that subtle change in movement can put extra strain on your knee joint, leading to discomfort or even injury.

What Actually Causes Shin Splints?

Shin splints happen when the muscles, tendons and bone tissue in your lower leg get overworked. The reasons vary, but here are some of the biggest culprits:

  • Overuse – Too much running, jumping or high-impact activity without proper rest can trigger inflammation.
  • Sudden Training Changes – Jumping into longer runs or harder workouts too fast can shock your legs. Your body needs time to adjust.
  • Worn-Out Shoes – If your shoes don’t provide enough support or cushioning, your feet and legs take the hit. If you need new shoes, we have a local partner, Athletic Annex who can evaluate your gait, foot and more.
  • Flat Feet or High Arches – The way your foot strikes the ground can put extra stress on your shins, making them more prone to pain.
  • Hard Surfaces – Running on pavement or uneven ground increases impact and stress on your lower legs.

Will a Knee Brace Help with Shin Splints?

Not exactly. A knee brace can provide support if your knee is hurting because of shin splints, but it won’t fix the actual problem. If shin splints are throwing off your movement and leading to knee pain, the real solution is treating the root cause with proper footwear, stretching, strengthening and giving your legs time to recover.

Shin Splint Relief

Dealing with shin splints and knee pain? Here’s what helps:

  • Rest and Ice – Give your legs a break and ice the area to reduce inflammation.
  • Upgrade Your Shoes – Supportive, well-cushioned shoes can make a huge difference.
  • Ease Into Training – Gradually increase your workout intensity instead of pushing too hard too fast.
  • Strength and Flexibility Work – Strengthen your calves, ankles and shins while keeping everything flexible.
  • Mix Up Your Workouts – Try low-impact activities like swimming or cycling to reduce repetitive stress.
