WEST LAFAYETTE - Purdue Athletics has entered into a partnership with Franciscan Health designating the regional health care organization as the exclusive medical services provider for the Boilermakers.

Benefiting the elite level of sports medicine and athletic performance support received by Purdue's more than 450 student-athletes, the official relationship between the Old Gold & Black and Franciscan dedicates two team physicians for the 18 Boilermaker sport programs, along with two part-time physicians and support from Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics' surgical team.

Dr. Carly Day, head physician for Purdue Athletics, was appointed to her role in December 2017. Day oversees the provision of medical care to all student-athletes on campus, including the referral of patients to healthcare facilities, specialists and diagnostic services, such as imaging and laboratory services. Additionally, she provides medical supervision for Purdue's athletic trainers and physical therapists. Day has an office and exam rooms at Mackey Arena and maintains a student-athlete clinic Monday-Friday.

A native of Cleveland, Day arrived in West Lafayette after a stint as the head primary care physician at Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. She also held an academic appointment of Clinical Associate Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. She also previously served as a team physician for the United States U-20 women's national soccer team.

Joining the team physician duo is Dr. Alberto Oseguera, a Purdue University alum (2013) who recently completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Washington while serving as a team physician for the Huskies. Oseguera completed his residency in family medicine at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa in San Antonio, Texas, in 2020.

Earning his doctorate of medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2017, Dr. Oseguera will serve primarily as team physician for Purdue Football.

Both Dr. Greg Rowdon and Dr. Emily Krodel continue to serve as part-time team physicians for Purdue.

Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics' team of surgeons not only oversees surgical needs for Purdue's student-athlete population but also cares for the health of the Indianapolis Colts. Leading Forté's team at Purdue is Dr. Dale Snead, a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of shoulders, elbows, forearms and hands, who has served Purdue for 23 years and also serves as an assistant team physician for the Colts.

Rounding out Purdue's student-athlete healthcare offerings is the school's front line of defense - its reputable sports medicine department led by Doug Boersma, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Performance & Sports Medicine. The Boilermakers' sports medicine department features 17 certified athletic trainers, three physical therapists, four dietitians, 15 strength & conditioning coaches, two sports psychologists and one sports psychiatrist.
