Dr. Gregory Slabaugh is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in orthopedic trauma (including lower extremity fractures and upper extremity fractures), total knee and hip replacement, knee and shoulder arthroscopy, and sports medicine. He majored in biology with a minor in chemistry during his undergraduate studies at Indiana University and graduated with highest distinction. Additional education included an honors-level interdisciplinary certificate program, LAMP (Liberal Arts and Management Program) during his time in Bloomington. Dr. Slabaugh obtained his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Indiana University School of Medicine. He has previously served as an assistant team physician for the Indianapolis Indians.
Dr. Slabaugh believes that patients should be actively involved in every aspect of their treatment plan. His approach to patient care is that every ailment does not need to end in surgery. He informs patients of all possible options for them to help the patient ultimately make informed decisions of what works best for them. Dr. Slabaugh has always had an interest in helping people, even at a young age. He was intrigued by the field of medicine as an occupation because it allows utilization of skills and knowledge to help people, when they may need it the most, in situations that pertain to their health. Dr. Slabaugh believes orthopedics is a unique field in medicine due to its ability to return someone to a more functional state that may have been acutely taken from them in an instance of trauma or over time from degenerative conditions. Through his care and expertise, he prides himself in aiding a patient in returning to a more mobile and functional way of life.
In his free time, Dr. Slabaugh enjoys spending time with his family and traveling. He enjoys college and professional athletics and enjoys going out to see a game with friends and family or also relaxing at home to do the same.
