Dr. Michael Del Busto joins the practice, bringing new testing and therapies in-house

CARMEL, Ind. – Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, one of the country’s original sports medicine practices and the first in Indiana, has expanded its team and service offerings with the hiring of Michael Del Busto, MD. Del Busto, a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician specializing in rehabilitation and minimally invasive procedures, will help enhance the Forté patient experience by providing new testing and therapies historically referred out of the practice.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Del Busto, whose skill set complements our existing team of physicians and staff,” said Dr. Jonathan Smerek, president of Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics. “His areas of expertise are a great benefit to our patients of all ages, those with acute injuries as well as those with chronic pain.”

Del Busto comes to Forté from the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where he completed his primary care sports medicine fellowship. Prior to that, he completed both his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation and his internship in internal medicine at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Del Busto earned his bachelor’s degree while playing football at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, before pursuing medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

A native of Carmel, Indiana, Del Busto has returned to his hometown to see patients at Forté’s clinic and surgery center, located inside the Orthopedic Center of Excellence at 10767 Illinois St. in Carmel. He provides patients with in-house access to fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided injections to help relieve chronic and ongoing pain, electromyography (EMG) testing to help identify muscle and nerve dysfunction, shockwave therapy to promote tissue healing and repair, and minimally invasive percutaneous tenotomy (Tenjet) to remove degenerative tendon tissue, among other procedures. Del Busto’s rehabilitation background also helps reinforce Forté’s integration of physicians and physical therapists to enhance patient outcomes.

“I take a holistic approach to care, in which I like to spend time getting to know patients and understanding their goals, whether it’s getting back to work or back on the field,” said Del Busto. “I look forward to meeting Forté’s new and existing patients, explaining all treatment options available, and working together as a team to help them reach their goals.”
