Joshua Perkins is a Physician Assistant for Dr. Maratt, with a focus on hips and knees. Joshua’s approach to patient care is to treat patients by delivering patient-centered care by prioritizing empathy, safety, continuity of care and clear communication. He believes it is important to design a care plan built entirely around each patient's specific health goals, lifestyle and preferences. Joshua feels this all contributes to patients having realistic expectations during the pre- and post-operative period.
After sustaining a knee injury in college which required surgery and at his lowest moment thinking his baseball career was over, Joshua found an orthopedic surgeon who saved his athletic career. It was in this process where Joshua met the surgeon's physician assistant and found out the job duties of a PA and how they played a vital role in not only the clinical setting, but the operating room as well. Joshua valued that the PA is who he had a clear line of communication with and who he saw for most postoperative appointments. This is where Joshua was educated on the full scope of a physician assistant's abilities and duties which include: diagnosis and development of treatment plans, ordering labs and imaging, prescribing medications, sending out referrals, performing procedures, suturing and first-assisting in the OR. Joshua enjoys being with patients at the beginning of their journey, when their spirits are usually at their lowest. But after providing them with a clear diagnosis and concise treatment plan (whether that be non-op, therapeutic injections, or surgery) the role of physician assistant gets to lift their spirits and watch them take back control of their lives. Joshua also enjoys being a part of a team atmosphere where he believes each person plays a vital role in the patient's overall experience and care.
When not in the clinic, Joshua enjoys trying new food/restaurants, traveling, working out, golfing and playing in recreational sports leagues.
