Amy Bender is an orthopedic Physician Assistant, working alongside Dr. Lance Rettig and specializing in hand, wrist and elbow. An Indianapolis native, Amy graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. With a special interest in surgery, Amy received her Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2009, which was one of the only two surgical PA schools in the country at the time. She returned home to Indianapolis following graduation and worked in total joint replacement. Amy followed her husband’s career to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and continued as an orthopedic Physician Assistant in multiple areas of orthopedics, including sports medicine, upper extremity, joint replacement, foot and ankle, trauma and hip arthroscopy. Orthopedics is truly a passion of hers.
Amy took several years away from the office to raise her children. She was the Care Coordinator for Luma Counseling for the past two years. Her love of orthopedics and assisting people in receiving the care they need brought Amy to Forté.
Amy is married to Dr. Michael Bender, and they have 3 children: twin boys and a girl. The Benders attend church regularly and enjoy sports, traveling, being outside and playing together. Amy is a big crafter and has a little business on the side making custom apparel and décor.
