Hydroworx

The HydroWorx underwater treadmill allows patients to safely and comfortably return to walking, running or other sport-specific activities without the body weight and joint impact normally felt on hard, outdoor surfaces.

Underwater treadmill therapy has proven particularly helpful for patients who:

  • Are dealing with arthritis-related joint pain
  • Have suffered stress fractures and have been given weight-bearing precautions
  • Are, post-op, having difficulty regaining range of motion due to pain
  • Are having balance and confidence deficits, not quite trusting a lower extremity
  • Are athletes recovering from an injury who need interval training against resistance

Benefits of Underwater Treadmill Training:

  • Promotes early range of motion
  • Initiates gait training in a low impact environment
  • Enhances muscle strengthening
  • Increases healing and strengthening of injured tissue
  • Reduces joint stiffness

Benefits of aquatic therapy

  • Increased buoyancy relieves the pressure on stressed joints, provides a low impact form of exercising
  • While exercising in chest deep water, the body is 80% weightless, bearing only 20% weight
  • Warm water improves circulation and can help with increasing range of motion in stiff joint
  • Hydrostatic pressure improves circulation helping to decrease inflammation, swelling and pain
  • Water provides a natural resistance for strengthening
