Our full-body screening process helps us identify potential issues with movement, joints, and flexibility so we can create more targeted treatment plans. A functional movement screening helps to show how a patient’s body moves in order to assess for potential for injuries.
Functional movement screenings are beneficial for many types of people, not just athletes. Anyone who wants to find out if they can start a new type of exercise program, has had previous injuries or has questions about persistent pain would benefit from a functional movement screening.
During a screening, a patient will perform seven different movements and exercises including deep squats, hurdle steps, in-line lunges, shoulder mobility, active straight leg rise, trunk stability push up and rotary stability. The movements are scored and analyzed to identify movement patterns and any restrictions or issues. Once the issues are identified, corrective exercises can be used to target and fix the problems that were found during the screening. Re-screening every 4-6 weeks can be an effective tool to see progress during treatment as well.
